The TAFESA Urrbrae Campus

Location

The Urrbrae campus of TAFESA is situated just six kilometres from the Adelaide central business district and is easily accessed by bus, bicycle or car. It sits at the base of the beautiful Adelaide Hills and is close to several metropolitan beaches along Gulf St.Vincent. Adjoining Urrbrae is the Waite Campus and Arboretum of the University of Adelaide.

Teaching and Learning Facilities

The 46 hectare site includes magnificent gardens and lawns, a plant production nursery, areas for farming, plant and animal husbandry, environmental land, pasture, horticultural crops, arboriculture and an extensive water recycling, flood mitigation and a wetlands education centre.

All teaching and study areas are purpose built and include: plant and soil laboratories, landscaping and irrigation workshops, garden design studio, computer suites with free internet access and an extensive horticultural and environmental library. A large range of machinery and equipment is provided to ensure training is as practical and “hands on” as possible.

Student Amenities

All TAFESA students have access to: a lounge (with refrigerator, microwave and tea/coffee facilities), cafeteria selling lunches and produce from the farm, an automatic teller machine, individual lockers, outdoor playing fields, bike racks, free parking on campus, a first aid room and a Student Services Officer to assist with personal study or career issues.

Staff

Twenty full and part-time lecturers provide training at the Urrbrae Campus. They come from a variety of industry backgrounds including: horticulture, landscaping, garden design, nurseries, turf management, agricultural and environmental science. Teaching staff are supported by managers, administration officers, librarians, laboratory and grounds staff.

Industry Support

The office of the Nursery and Garden Industry South Australia is located on the Urrbrae campus. Their officers provide students and staff with valuable advice on the latest industry advancements and work opportunities. Other associations affiliated with Urrbrae include: The Landscape Association of South Australia, Irrigation Association Australia, Sports Turf Association of South Australia and Parks Leisure Australia.
