What is the Diploma of Horticulture ?

The Diploma of Horticulture is a 2 year Full time course incorporating the Certificate III in Horticulture. It has been designed to meet the training needs of people with a keen interest in plants and the environment.

The full time course aims to provide participants with comprehensive practical, technical and management training to meet the needs of horticulture operators and managers. The course has been designed to enhance career and study pathways within the horticulture industry.

Graduates are actively sought by many horticulture businesses. For those who wish to further their studies at University, credit transfer arrangements are available.

What does the Diploma of Horticulture cover?

Year One - Certificate III in Horticulture includes practical training in plants and their propagation, soils, irrigation, fertilisers, pests, diseases, weeds and chemicals.

Year Two – Diploma of Horticulture includes:

1. Manage Environmental Performance.
2. Manage Staff.
3. Manage Plant Health.
4. Design Irrigation, Drainage and Water Treatment Systems.
5. Manage, Trial and/or Research Material.
6. Prepare Reports.
7. Collect and Classify Plants.
8. Monitor and Manage Soils.
9. Prepare a Garden Design.
10. Undertake a Site Assessment.

Industry Placement

Completion of the two year diploma plus up to 900 hours of verified industry placement enables graduates to apply for permanent residency. Course coordinators can assist with access to a range of horticultural workplaces.

Commencement Date

The next Diploma of Horticulture course commences in February 2008.

Entry Requirements

Satisfactory completion of year 12 or overseas equivalent. English proficiency demonstrated by IELTS 5.5.
